More about Sandi coming soon!
Candy is an artist, presenter, and magical human in recovery. Sandi is a behavioral health therapist, creator, and lifelong horror fan. Both are trauma survivors who want to educate others on the transformative nature of working with trauma, as well as the collective impact trauma has on our lives and communities. Candy and Sandi met through a mutual connection with The Colorado Festival of Horror. Candy has moderated several panels on transforming trauma into art. Sandi has presented workshops on Trauma in Horror and healing religious trauma. Both share an interest in what makes people tick (especially those who cause harm to others) and a passion for examining dark topics often considered taboo. Our goal is to bring more awareness to the impact of trauma on society, and help listeners live happier and healthier. We’ll be digging into horror and sci-fi while incorporating psychology and pop culture as a way to understand trauma's collective effect on the world. You will regularly encounter unfiltered language, and lots of references to horror and sci-fi/fantasy films. We're in for one hell of a ride with this project and we hope you'll join us.
In healing & hope - Candy Fantastic & Sandi Labo
The 50's and 60's were a time of war and turmoil, and the hippie backlash to the white picket fence life was on full display. We'll discuss how the Civil Rights Era and social/cultural issues set the stage for multiple atrocities that have traumatic resonance on our current socioeconomic and political landscape.
Trauma is both subjective and objective. We'll discuss why distress tolerance varies from person to person and how triggers get formed and stuck in our lizard brain. Our brains are amazing machines, but we gotta' learn to do the maintenance.
Remember that ones who told you, "Heh, that 5 inch bloody cut on your leg is fine...just go rub some dirt on it!"
Real talk about the minimization of human pain.
The pandemic of 2020 was a literal killer of hope, humans, and commerce as we knew it. We'll normalize the grief and loss and chat about what needs to happen next to establish better collective wellness.
How come I can't care about ____________? When did I become so barren of f&cks?
I just don't care anymore. Help!
Compassion fatigue makes us vulnerable to burnout, poor health, and it sucks the joy from life. Also, nihilism in a nutshell.
Gremlins get each and every one of us at one time or another. What are they?
Make it Stop! What do I do with them?
We have better suggestions than don't get them wet or feed them after midnight.
